Atlanta, GA – After a hard-fought victory over Georgia Tech, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman addressed the media in a postgame press conference on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The Fighting Irish secured a 31-21 win, continuing their momentum in the season and improving their record.

Freeman praised his team’s resilience and ability to adapt, particularly highlighting the performance of the defense. “Georgia Tech came in with a great game plan. We knew it was going to be a challenge, but I’m proud of how our defense stepped up when it mattered most, especially in the second half,” Freeman said. The Irish defense forced two key turnovers in the fourth quarter, sealing the game in their favor.

Offensively, Freeman commended the leadership of starting quarterback Sam Hartman, who threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns. “Sam was composed throughout. He made some critical throws when we needed them, and our offensive line gave him the protection to make those plays,” Freeman noted. Hartman’s connection with wide receiver Tobias Merriweather, who had a career-high 125 yards and a touchdown, was another highlight of the game.

Despite the win, Freeman emphasized that there’s room for improvement. “We missed some opportunities out there, and we’ve got to clean up a few things. But this group fights, and that’s what you want as a coach – guys who won’t quit.”

The win against Georgia Tech puts Notre Dame in a strong position heading into the final stretch of the season. With key matchups looming, Freeman’s focus remains on continuous improvement and keeping the team grounded.

“We’ve got some big games ahead. We can’t get too high or too low,” Freeman said as he wrapped up the press conference. “It’s about building every week, and that’s what we’ll do.”

Notre Dame now prepares to face their next opponent, with hopes of continuing their winning streak and bolstering their chances for a postseason bid.
