“Be very careful” – Jason Cundy issues warning amidst Hammers’ attempt to bring back Premier League Legend in the summer transfer window, says Lopetegui not in dire need of midfield reinforcement

Jason Cundy has issued a cautionary note to West Ham United, expressing significant concerns regarding their pursuit of N’Golo Kante.

West Ham’s initial verbal offer of £15 million for the World Cup-winning midfielder was rejected by Al-Ittihad, who are holding out for at least £25 million this summer, according to David Ornstein on 19 July.

During a talkSPORT segment on Friday, 19 July at 18:45, Cundy remarked, “Be very careful because N’Golo’s injury record in the Premier League over his last two seasons at Chelsea was troubling. He struggled significantly with injuries.

“I believe one reason for his career resurgence is playing in the Saudi Pro League, which is less demanding on the body compared to the Premier League. The intensity and level of football in England are quite different, and that raises concerns for me. He is undoubtedly a top player, as demonstrated in the Euros, but I would still be wary.”

Kante proved his worth during the recent Euros, showcasing his abilities as one of the premier holding midfielders when fit. However, the challenge for West Ham would be maintaining his fitness.

As Cundy pointed out, Kante’s last few seasons at Stamford Bridge were marred by frequent injuries, preventing him from consistently participating in matches. The rigors of the Premier League took a toll on his body, raising doubts about his ability to remain fit.

West Ham is not in dire need of midfield reinforcements this summer, and they face a decision: whether to test Al-Ittihad with a new offer for Kante or to focus on acquiring a striker or strengthening their defense.

At 33 years old, Kante’s prime years are behind him. The question for West Ham is whether it is prudent to invest over £25 million in a player who offers no future resale value and may struggle to handle the demands of the English top flight.

West Ham must proceed with caution in their approach to this potential transfer.
