Toffees Looking to improve squad further as Director Kevin Thelwel Eyes Napoli’s Starlet who claims to have REJECTED offer from Liverpool

Everton are on the verge of securing another signing, having already brought in Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye. The club is aiming to enhance their performance across the pitch, with Kevin Thelwell, the Director of Football at Goodison Park, particularly focusing on defensive improvements. After strengthening the forward line with Ndiaye, Thelwell has set his sights on Montpellier’s Becir Omeragic, who sports the No. 27 jersey, to bolster the defense.

In addition to these moves, Everton are close to fortifying their midfield. According to Corriere dello Sport’s live blog update on Thursday, July 18th, Everton is nearing a deal to sign Jesper Lindstrom from Napoli. The Danish international, who wears the No. 29 jersey, is reportedly set to join the Toffees on loan for the 2024/25 season. The deal includes an option to make the transfer permanent next summer for a fee of €25 million (£21 million).

Lindstrom faced a challenging 2023/24 season at Napoli, where he made only two starts in Serie A, contributing to the club’s disappointing tenth-place finish. Despite this, he remains a highly regarded player, and his underwhelming season should not overshadow his potential, especially considering that several top players at Napoli also struggled during the same period.

Previously, Lindstrom had impressed at Eintracht Frankfurt, prompting Napoli to invest £25 million in him in August 2023, following their Serie A title win. Although he did not score and provided just one assist in 32 appearances last season, this does not reflect a sudden decline in his abilities.

Moreover, Lindstrom has already endeared himself to Everton fans by rejecting a move to Liverpool, a club he supports. In an interview with Tipsbladet, he explained his decision, saying: “There was Liverpool, but would I get playing time? Would it be smart to go to Liverpool? I’m a Liverpool fan, so it would also be an insanely cool experience, but if I’m not playing, I might as well sit and watch them on TV for another club.” This statement highlights his practical approach to his career and his commitment to securing regular playing time.
