Fire Erupts at Oregon State University, Campus Evacuated
CORVALLIS, OR — A massive fire broke out at Oregon State University early today, causing significant damage to campus facilities and prompting the evacuation of students and staff.
The fire reportedly started in one of the university’s main academic buildings around 4:00 AM and quickly spread due to strong winds. Emergency responders arrived on the scene promptly and have been battling the flames for several hours. As of now, there are no reports of injuries, but the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.
Students living in nearby dormitories were swiftly evacuated to safety, and the university has set up temporary shelters at off-campus locations. Classes and activities have been suspended for the foreseeable future.
“We are doing everything we can to control the fire and ensure the safety of everyone on campus,” said Fire Chief Michael Dawson. “The situation is still evolving, but our priority is to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have launched an investigation and are urging the public to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to work efficiently.
Oregon State University President Jayathi Murthy expressed her concerns and assured the community of the university’s commitment to recovery. “This is a challenging time for all of us, but together, we will rebuild and move forward,” she said in a statement.
