Leicester City have reportedly agreed to a €30 million fee with Juventus for Matias Soule’s transfer after their initial bid was rejected, according to an Italian journalist. Despite this agreement, Mirko Di Natale has reported that Soule prefers a move to AS Roma, with West Ham also showing interest.
The 21-year-old Argentine youth international began his career at Velez Sarsfield in Argentina before moving to Juventus’ academy in 2021. He progressed through their ‘Next Gen’ side and made his first-team debut against Salernitana in September 2021.
Last season, Soule was loaned to Serie A, now Serie B, team Frosinone to gain first-team experience. He performed impressively, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists, despite the team’s relegation from Italy’s top division.
Soule’s playing style has drawn comparisons to fellow Argentinians Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala. In a 2023 interview with TMW, his agent commented on these comparisons: “The comparison with Di Maria is understandable, but Fideo is a World Champion and an established player. Dybala is also very strong, but Mati is unique. He’s the second-best player for completed dribbles in Serie A after only four games. If he had played six, he might be first. Comparing players can help understand their qualities, but Matias is driven by his immense love for football, to the point where he can’t sleep when he’s not playing.”
Leicester City have recently signed winger Abdul Fatawu but are still looking for additional attacking options. Soule, who plays a similar position, could provide the depth that manager Steve Cooper is seeking for the team’s wide positions.
