West Ham United have engaged in further discussions with Al Nassr regarding a potential summer transfer for Lucas Paqueta, as reported by Rudy Galetti. According to a post on Galetti’s personal X account dated 19 July, the journalist from TEAMtalk indicates that the Saudi Arabian club recently had another meeting with West Ham officials. This follows initial talks held at the beginning of July, aiming to bring the Brazilian player into a squad that includes Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite these discussions, West Ham remain steadfast in their decision not to sell Paqueta. The negotiations between the two parties show a significant disparity in expectations, making a transfer highly unlikely. The stance of the Hammers regarding Paqueta’s departure has been unequivocal, especially evident from their interactions with Flamengo. The Brazilian club’s offer was promptly declined, with West Ham making it clear that Paqueta is a key component of Julen Lopetegui’s plans for the 2024/25 season, as noted by Sean Whetstone on 4 July.
Furthermore, Paqueta’s situation is complicated by legal issues, as he faces a potential lengthy ban from football due to four charges of spot-fixing, allegations he firmly denies. However, while awaiting a hearing, he is expected to be available for most of the upcoming season, reducing the incentive for West Ham to consider selling him at this point.
The only scenario that might change the club’s position is the activation of Paqueta’s release clause, which is set at £85 million. Unless such an offer materializes, Paqueta is anticipated to continue wearing the claret and blue jersey of West Ham at the London Stadium for the 2024/25 season.
