Shea Cahill, the son of Everton legend Tim Cahill, has joined Nottingham Forest after being released by Everton. Tim Cahill, a former attacking midfielder, is a celebrated figure in Goodison Park’s history. Signed for a mere £1.5 million from Millwall in 2004, he scored 68 goals in 278 appearances over eight years at Everton. His contributions were pivotal in the 2004-05 team’s fourth-place Premier League finish and the 2009 FA Cup final run, despite the loss to Chelsea.
Tim Cahill retired from professional football in 2019 after stints with clubs including Shanghai Shenhua, Hangzhou Greentown, Melbourne City, a second spell at Millwall, and finally Jamshedpur. His legacy in football, however, continues through his son Shea, who is striving to build his own career in the sport.
Born in Merseyside, Shea came up through Everton’s academy. Despite his efforts, he was released by Everton in 2023 at the end of his two-year scholarship. Seeking new opportunities, Shea moved to Australia, his father’s homeland, and signed with Brisbane Roar. Now, he has returned to England to join Nottingham Forest, where he has linked up with their B team.
Shea expressed his excitement about this new chapter in his career, stating on Nottingham Forest’s official website: “I’m so happy and excited to start this next chapter with Nottingham Forest. I want to thank everyone at the club and my family for supporting me. My goals are to train hard and dedicate myself to being the best I can be, making both my family and the football club proud.”
Chris McGuane, the head of Nottingham Forest’s academy, also shared his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to welcome Shea to Nottingham Forest and are excited to see how he integrates into the B team group. Shea has had first-team experience out in Australia and is joining the Club hungry to improve as a player.”
Shea Cahill’s journey illustrates the challenging path many young footballers face in establishing their careers, and his connection to his father’s legacy adds a compelling narrative to his professional endeavors.
