Leicester City are considering the acquisition of a Colombian international as part of their summer transfer plans.
Steve Cooper remains focused on bolstering the midfield at King Power Stadium. This strategy has become even more critical following the departure of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has reunited with former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca. Consequently, midfield reinforcements have become a top priority for Cooper ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
To date, Michael Golding stands as Leicester City’s sole midfield signing. The club had previously set its sights on Callum O’Hare, who has since joined Sheffield United. Additionally, Celtic’s Matt O’Riley emerged as a potential replacement for Dewsbury-Hall, with Leicester reportedly leading the race to sign the Danish international.
Cooper’s quest for midfield talent extends beyond these targets. Reports from UOL suggest that Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios has caught Leicester City’s attention. The 24-year-old Colombian is also being pursued by Everton, another Premier League team. Leicester City is aiming to secure Rios on a permanent deal.
Rios has earned 13 caps for the Colombian national team, participating in six matches during the 2024 Copa America, where Colombia advanced to the final. Primarily deployed as a defensive midfielder, Rios also possesses the versatility to play in more advanced roles when required.
Despite his young age, Rios brings considerable experience from his time in South America. He has made 82 appearances for Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras, showcasing his ability and potential on a consistent basis.
As the transfer window progresses, Leicester City’s efforts to strengthen their midfield will be crucial in shaping their prospects for the upcoming Premier League season.
