On the “Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet” podcast on July 15, the BBC Leeds journalist stated that the Welsh international is keen to return to Elland Road, having spent the latter half of last season on loan under Daniel Farke.

However, Leeds United is currently targeting Sheffield United’s Jayden Bogle, with a potential move for him being considered, according to Mike McGrath on July 13.

Pope remarked, “Connor Roberts, as I understand it, would really like to come to Leeds if there’s no future for him at Burnley. Now that both clubs are in the same division, I know which club I’d prefer. I really like Connor Roberts. I think he has a strong Leeds mentality, aggression, and he bought into it. A bit of injury just prevented him from getting more minutes. And of course, Archie [Gray] is brilliant.

“But Jayden Bogle is being considered now. Leeds are definitely interested in him from Sheffield United. He’s another young player with loads of Championship experience.”

With Leeds potentially needing to sign two right-backs this summer unless they add at least one left-back, the team currently has only Sam Byram and Junior Firpo to cover both sides of the defense. Both players have a history of injuries, and Firpo is reportedly set to be sold this summer, as per the Daily Mail on July 1.

Gray has been transferred to Tottenham, Roberts is back at Burnley, and Jamie Shackleton has moved to Sheffield United after his contract ended. Therefore, it makes sense for Leeds to pursue a deal for Bogle while still considering bringing Roberts back.

However, it’s uncertain whether the transfer budget can accommodate both deals, given the need for reinforcements in other areas. A portion of Gray’s £40m fee went towards acquiring Joe Rodon, and more funds are expected soon for Glen Kamara, according to L’Equipe on July 13. The 49ers are also expected to sign a direct replacement in midfield, as reported by Leeds All Over on July 13.

Roberts made 15 appearances last season, mostly from the bench, but had fallen down the pecking order under Vincent Kompany. His future at Burnley will largely depend on the plans of new boss Scott Parker.
