In a moment of celebration for the Adelaide Crows and their supporters, Chris McDermott, the club’s inaugural captain and spiritual leader, has been inducted into the Australian Football League (AFL) Hall of Fame. This prestigious recognition honors McDermott’s outstanding contributions to the sport and his lasting impact on the AFL community.

McDermott, who played a vital role in the early years of the Adelaide Crows, was known for his leadership, resilience, and unwavering dedication on the field. His induction into the Hall of Fame highlights his exceptional career, which spanned from his days in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) with Glenelg to his influential tenure with the Crows.

At the induction ceremony, McDermott expressed his gratitude and pride in receiving the honor. “This is an incredibly proud moment for me and my family,” McDermott said. “Football has been a huge part of my life, and to be recognized in the AFL Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor. I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and everyone at the Adelaide Crows and Glenelg for their support throughout my career.”

McDermott’s football journey began in the SANFL, where he made a name for himself as a formidable midfielder with Glenelg. His leadership qualities and on-field performances earned him a spot in the newly formed Adelaide Crows in 1991, where he became the club’s first captain. Under his guidance, the Crows established themselves as a competitive force in the AFL.
