Leeds United, currently active in the transfer market, recently faced a setback as a £7 million bid from their fierce rivals Galatasaray for a player linked to Elland Road was rejected. The Turkish club is expected to return with an improved offer.
Leeds is in pursuit of a new right-back, with Jayden Bogle of Sheffield United emerging as a primary target this summer. Under the guidance of manager Daniel Farke, Leeds has made two separate £4 million bids, structured differently, but both offers were turned down.
Jayden Bogle, 23, is not the sole right-back Leeds is considering this transfer window. The club is also interested in Falaye Sacko from Mali, who currently plays for Montpellier, and a potential return for Connor Roberts is also on the cards.
However, another Championship player has recently caught Leeds’ attention. Sunderland’s right-back, Trai Hume, has become a subject of interest, with Galatasaray making a £7 million bid to attract him away from British football for the first time. This offer, however, was rejected.
Trai Hume, aged 23, had a notable season with Sunderland, having played in all 46 Championship games after only making 37 appearances in his initial 18 months at the Stadium of Light. His impressive performance has drawn attention from not just Leeds, but also Aston Villa, Napoli, Leicester, and Bournemouth.
Sunderland is demanding £8 million for the Northern Ireland defender. The Belfast Telegraph reported that Galatasaray’s £7 million bid was not accepted, signaling the need for a higher offer to secure Hume.
Currently, Bogle remains Leeds’ preferred choice. Despite the negotiations being tough, given Bogle’s contract expiring at the end of the next season, there might be room for a compromise between Leeds’ £4 million valuation and Sheffield United’s £7 million asking price.
Sunderland’s demand for a higher fee than what would be required to sign Bogle suggests they value Hume significantly. Bogle, with Premier League experience and notable goals against top clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea last season, could be a more cost-effective option for Leeds, making him a preferable choice over Hume.
