According to Area Napoli, Napoli have initiated contact with Everton to inquire about the availability of Vitalii Mykolenko. This report, released on Tuesday (16 July), highlights the Serie A club’s ongoing search for a new left-back and their interest in the Ukrainian international.
Everton, managed by Sean Dyche, are eager to retain the 25-year-old defender at Goodison Park this summer. However, Napoli, under the guidance of Antonio Conte, have maintained a keen interest in Mykolenko.
Conte has been an admirer of the player since his tenure at Inter Milan, where he sought to bring the left-back into his squad. Additionally, Napoli’s chief scout, Maurizio Micheli, previously recommended Mykolenko to the former director of football at the club, Cristiano Giuntoli.
The prospect of losing Mykolenko would be a significant setback for Everton. Despite facing some challenges in popularity at Goodison Park, the defender demonstrated considerable improvement last season, becoming a dependable figure in Dyche’s defensive lineup.
His exceptional work rate, both on and off the ball, and his resilience have made him a valuable asset to the team. If he can avoid the injuries that have plagued his career thus far, Mykolenko has the potential to rank among the Premier League’s top fullbacks.
Given Everton’s financial situation, selling Mykolenko would not be a prudent decision unless Napoli offers a fee that matches the initial investment Everton made for his acquisition. Everton have already managed to balance their finances through several significant departures this summer, further emphasizing the importance of retaining Mykolenko.
The only other experienced left-back option in the squad is Ashley Young, whose best years are behind him.
